MARCH 1, 2018 — Last night NFL player Jay Bromley was honored by the Family Center for Autism in Garden City, NY, as excitement builds for a basketball fundraiser this month.
At the cocktail reception, a recreation lounge was dedicated to Jay, who has been instrumental in raising funds for the FCA. Several of Jay’s relatives have worked with the center. In talking with Jay, his commitment to FCA’s mission was obvious.
The dedication ceremony also served as the kickoff for a very popular annual fundraiser for autism services. The 12th annual “Alley Oop For Autism” basketball tournament will be Saturday March 24th at Jericho High School.
Bromley, a Queens native who most recently played with the NY Giants for several years, is expected to attend. Other sports personalities who’ve appeared in the past include ESPN analyst Adam Schefter, former NBA star and current MSG studio analyst Wally Szczerbiak, and former NFL star and current CBS radio host & NFL color commentator Boomer Esiason.
Spectators pay just $5. If you want to play, 3-5 person teams donate $40 per player to compete in a minimum of three 10-minute games. Teams include boys and girls divisions ranging from small children to adults. More than a thousand people are expected to participate.
This year, Alley Oop for Autism will surpass the $1 million mark in total funds raised since it was started by Justin Resnick in 2007. All proceeds go to the Family Center for Autism and the Anderson Center for Autism.
Matt Zebatto, Assistant Executive Director for Life’s WORC/Family Center For Autism says the event “demonstrates how charity and giving can ignite and gain momentum to benefit many.”
